Appointment System and Patient Feedback Surveys
The Health and Care Experience Survey for 2021 / 22 has been published by the Scottish Government and asks patients about their experiences of using their GP Practice. This survey has been undertaken every year since 2009. Please find below a link to the results for our practice and how it compares to the national average.
As can be seen the practice performs above average for the vast majority of the indicators measured. Most importantly our patients rate the overall care provided by the practice at 87% which is significantly above the National Average of 67%. This survey was carried out in October 2021 when all practices were under significant pressure as a result of the COVID Pandemic in addition to the usual demands which the Winter Season usually brings.
In February of this year we undertook our own Survey by text message to ask patients about their thoughts on the telephone system that has been in place since the COVID pandemic began. We had an excellent number of replies (818).
We thank all of the Patients who took part in these surveys.
At present there is unprecedented demand for GP appointments (both face to face and by phone). We are starting to offer Patients more face to face appointments again, however demand is now significantly higher than in the past and we are aware that there are now delays in being seen for routine appointments. Our practice has slightly higher than average staffing ratios but we have seen our waiting times rise in recent weeks despite offering more appointments. At present we have been offering about 70% more appointments than we did in prepandemic levels despite having no extra staff (roughly 1850 appointments per month now vs 1100 before). This is a problem affecting all practices at the moment.
Our reception staff have been trained to enquire more about patients’ problems when they phone for an appointment so that they can try to direct people to the quickest and most appropriate person to deal with their issue. We are trying to improve the service offered and to provide as much patient choice as possible (Face to Face or telephone consultations). We will continue to review this on an ongoing basis and ask for your patience whilst demand is so high.

Practice History
Previously known as The Blackwood Partnership, our practice is one of the oldest in Govan with a history dating back to the early 20th century. In 2015 we changed the practice name to the David Elder Medical Practice by popular demand from our patients. Born in 1795, David Elder was a marine engineer known as one of the forefathers of shipbuilding on the Clyde.
